The Rhinelander Rat Rescue was formed in April of 2005. Since then this small
home based rescue has found loving homes to over 137 rats! Almost five years later
we are still going strong.
The rescue is located in Rhinelander Wisconsin, about 60 miles north of Wausau.
We run a closed rescue for the safety of our rats. But pictures of the rescue is on
our picture page.
Over the last four years we have also worked closely with the Marathon County
Humane Society and also the Oneida County Humane Society.
The rescue is home to 12 resident rats and 10 rats up for adoption. We follow strict
quarantine rules for every rat that is rescued or surrendered before it comes into
the rescue. The health of the rats here is extremely important to us. Rats are
quarantined for a minimum of three weeks before coming here. If a rat is listed but
still in quarantine you will see a date available under their adoption picture.
All rats here are treated with love and respect and are fed a high quality home
made rat food called Suebees mix, there is a link to it under the main page links. I
also cook meals for the rats here using high quality foods and homegrown foods in
the summer time.
The Rescue is not 501 as of yet. So although we rely on donations and sales of
merchandise, the donations are not tax claimable. Hopefully this will be changing
in the future. But please consider donating as all donations go directly into the care
of the rats here.
